chihuahuas

holly and tommy are long coat chihuahuas. our daughters have been besotted with this breed for a long time and we made them read and learn all the pitfalls of owning such a small breed. the novelty didn't wear off so we felt they was ready to take on the commitment with our support..

holly
holly was born on december 21st 2007 and at 12 weeks weighed in at 3 pounds. she has an excellent coat with strong red and fawn pigment and overall is a very pretty girl.  although holly is not the smallest chihuahua in the world, she is extremely HEALTHY, her conformaton is good and she has a wonderfull apple dome head, great ear placement and perfect bite.  her temperament is fantastic and she enjoys the company of our children (even the little one) and our other dogs. she is a super companion, making friends with the cats and even venturing to play with our new born kid goat.

wee tommy bubbles - always at your ankles
wee tommy arrived on 27th April 2008, aged 10 weeks and weighing under two and a half pounds. a tiny little bundle of dynamite and most certainly all dog. he is a fantastic specimen with a perfect domed head, excellent ear placement and again a perfect scissor bite. his colouring is a most unusual blue/black and tan and he has the most fantastic paces and natural tail carriage.

great care is taken with the chi's around our younger children and other dogs because they are so small. they are never allowed to run freely with all our bigger dogs and are never with the smaller of our children without an adult supervising. we have several small crates placed around the house so they has somewhere to go if they are feeling overwhelmed. this can be quite demanding so i would never recommend that anyone with small children take on such a small pet unless they can be on hand 24/7.

we are being contacted on a regular basis by people who have bought an unhealthy puppy without realising. in almost every case they have bought an extremely small expensive chihuahua puppy, tiny, cute and adorable but often sadly, with a very limited life span.

good practice and experience suggest that you do not buy from someone who has limited experience in the breed. most repuable breeders will stand over their puppies, the very least is a replacement puppy from the next litter is the puppy dies at an early age from a congenital defect such as hydrocephalus (water-on-the-brain), tracheal collapse, and seizures.

Puppies can suffer health problems even when the breeder has done the best they can to ensure they have produced the healthiest puppies they can, sometimes things just happen. one Kennel describes the 'tea cup myth' very well and we would advise everyone to follow the link and be aware.

know what you are getting into - google the 'chihuahua' to get as much information as you can. as we always advise, buy from reputable breeders who will stand over their puppies. there is less chance of spending a fortune of hard earned cash at your vet and less chance of the heartache of loosing a much loved new puppy.
